ABRSM Qualifications Director Ali Bowen-Davies said: “We are absolutely thrilled to be launching our newest ARSM subject in Singing for Musical Theatre. This continues our offer from Grade 1 and enables learners on the singing for musical theatre stage to study, perfect and perform a complete range of repertoire from beginner through to Diploma level with the ARSM.
“We have consulted with professional performers, teachers and educators to ensure the songs learners have to choose from encompass a wide range of styles and themes from across the Musical Theatre canon.
“We have carefully selected a broad range of repertoire to suit all voice types, enabling individuals the freedom and opportunity to articulate their musical creativity and identity. We can’t wait to see and hear candidates’ performances!”
ARSM candidates can take the exam as a face-to-face or digital assessment and will perform a 30-minute programme with at least 20 minutes of music chosen from the ARSM repertoire list and up to ten minutes of their own choice of music (of at least Grade 8 standard).
The Singing for Musical Theatre ARSM qualification specification and full repertoire list are available from March 2023 at https://www.abrsm.org/arsmdiploma and http://www.abrsm.org/sfmt. Candidates may enter for an exam from September 2023.
